The Moir Stakes is a Group 2 race that takes place at Moonee Valley Racecourse each year in October. Held as part of Cox Plate Day, the Moir Stakes is run over a distance of 1,200 metres and is run under weight-for-age conditions. The Moir Stakes, which has been known as the Schweppes Stakes since 1996, is worth a total of $300,000 in prize money.

The Moir Stakes was first run in 1976 when it was won by a horse named Scamada. Since then, the race has been won by a number of notable horses including Manikato (1982), Schillaci (1992), Falvelon (2000), Apache Cat (2009) and Black Caviar (2010). The race was first held as a Principal race until 1979 when it was allocated it’s Group 2 status. The Moir Stakes was originally contested over a distance of 1,000 metres until it was changed to 1,200 metres in 2007.
