Unable to secure much of a consistent run of form over two racing preparation prior to the 2013 spring, the key to Lankan Rupee’s success has without doubt laid with Price and the connections’ decision to geld the four-year-old at the conclusion of his 2013 autumn campaign; having since claimed seven victories and one minor place from eight competitive starts.

Price confirmed Lankan Rupee has been in pre-training at owners the Waymouth Family’s paddock on the Mornington Peninsula for the last month and will return to his Caulfield stables by early next week at the latest.

A proven performer on both good and harshly rain-affected surfaces, Price revealed the Redoute’s Choice gelding will be prepared for a return to racing in the Group 2 McEwan Stakes (1000m) on September 6th before a return to the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 Moir Stakes.

Also likely to make an appearance in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) on October 24th, the gelding out of Estelle Collection will the head towards the major target of the Group 1 VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) on November 8th.

From there, Price said an appearance in Perth for the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1400m) at Ascot Racecourse may come to fruition, or a maiden trip abroad to contest the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) which recently experienced a raise in prize money to a total of $2.55 million.

Returning to racing in impeccable form this season, Lankan Rupee strolled home to win the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) first-up before securing three incredible Group 1 victories back-to-back; easily winning all of the Oakleigh Plate (1100m), Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m); allowing the four-year-old to claim status at the world’s current highest-rated racehorse.
