Having returned to racing in career-best form this year, the world’s current leading sprinter Lankan Rupee has opened as and maintained status as clear favourite for success in Moir Stakes betting markets, currently available at odds of $1.50 ahead of Buffering ($5.50) and Angelic Light ($7) at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Lankan Rupee justify resounding favouritism and win the 2014 Moir Stakes, or will one of his classy rivals find the line in the clear?

Lankan Rupee ($1.50)

While suffering a shock defeat at the hands of fellow Moir Stakes acceptor Angelic Light in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) first-up this season, Lankan Rupee is in great condition, will leave from barrier 2 and will be partnered by regular rider Craig Newitt, making the classy sprinter particularly difficult to beat. Charging home in win the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) by four lengths first-up in autumn, the Redoute’s Choice gelding stamped his claims as Australian horse of the year when winning all of the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m), Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) back-to-back. Clear odds-on favourite for a fourth Group 1 tonight, punters may find value in back Lankan Rupee to win the Moir Stakes and one of his competitors to finish second in a quinella bet.

Rebel Dane ($8)

Securing an impressive total of six wins and three minors from just 17 competitive starts so far, Rebel Dane arguably offers punters the best value for money in 2014 Moir Stakes betting markets and is a great chance of causing an upset. A standout performer over the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival which was highlighted by a strong win in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), the California Dane entire finished second to Lankan Rupee in the T.J. Smith first-up this year and has returned to racing in competitive form this time in; finishing a strong third in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) first-up on August 9th. A great chance of running at least second, punters may find value in Rebel Dane’s $2.65 odds to finish with a place.

Buffering ($5.50)

A standout performer over the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival when following up a strong run for second in the Moir Stakes with three Group 1 victories over 1200m, Buffering has returned to racing this year seemingly as a third place specialist, and appears likely to finish in a similar position in tonight’s feature. Finishing seventh in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) upon returning to racing this year, the Mossman gelding ran a spirited third in the T.J. Smith before again finishing third in both the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) and Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m). While reportedly in excellent condition, a Group 1 feature amongst classy company may figure too great a task for Buffering in the Moir Stakes.
