Twenty Included in 2015 Moir Stakes Nominations

September 28th, 2015

A total of twenty talented sprinters have been included in nominations for Friday’s featured Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley; highlighted by the pending appearance of several previous winners at the highest level.

Three-year-old Petits Filous is yet to taste anything but success through her short but impressive racing career so far but undoubtedly faces her biggest test to date on Friday after being included in 2015 Moir Stakes nominations.

Trialling well in the lead-up to her debut campaign this time, Petits Filous more than stamped her claims as a filly to follow in taking out her first two starts with complete ease before making a successful transition to black type racing in taking out the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) on August 15th.

Having absolutely destroyed a talented field in taking out the Listed Cap D’Antibes (1100m) by three lengths last time, the Street Boss filly appears primed for her maiden Group 1 tilt and will weighted for success in the Moir Stakes.

A number of three-year-old prospects have also been included in 2015 Moir Stakes nominations, including Fontiton, Headwater and Godolphin stable mates Haptic and Furnaces.

Sprint king Joe Pride is set to launch a multi-pronged attack on the 2015 Moir Stakes after including Ball Of Muscle, Tiger Tees and Terravista in nominations.

Yet to finish outside the first three in 15 career starts, Ball Of Muscle returned this year for a close second in a Flemington minor over 1000m before placing second in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) and winning the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m).

Returning this time for third in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) on September 5th, Ball Of Muscle ran an agonizingly-close second in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) last time out and is primed for maiden Group 1 success on Friday night.

Terravista was a standout for Pride through the 2014 Spring Carnival; winning each of the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) and The Shorts before running a luckless fifth in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m), but capping his year with success in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m).

Returning this year for third place finishes in each of the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) before failing to get the distance and handle the conditions in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), Pride has revealed Terravista will likely instead contest the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1100m) first-up on Saturday.

Winner of the 2014 edition of the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), Tiger Tees returned last spring for consecutive wins in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) and Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) before placing second in the Tramway Handicap.

Unable to beat a single runner home in two Autumn Carnival starts, the Dubawi gelding has trialled well in the lead-up to the Moir Stakes.

2014 champion Buffering has been included in 2015 Moir Stakes nominations and will contest the race first-up, while classy Moonee Valley specialist Le Bonsir is sure to ruffle a few feathers should he be drawn favourably on Wednesday.
