Ball Of Muscle Ready for 2015 Moir Stakes Success

September 29th, 2015

Ball Of Muscle is yet to finish outside the first three through fifteen impressive career starts so far, and trainer Joe Pride is confident the classy gelding is in absolute peak condition ahead of his Group 1 debut in Friday night’s 2015 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley.

Ball Of Muscle returned to racing in typically slick form through his recent autumn and winter campaign; running second in a talent-rich Flemington sprint over 1000m before finishing second to subsequent two-time Group 1 winner Srikandi in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) and taking out the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m).

Having returned this time for a credible third in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) on September 5th despite fading terribly late, the Dubawi gelding clearly took huge improvement from the run when a close second in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) a fortnight ago.

A genuine 1000m horse, Pride has been thrilled with the form displayed and work completed by Ball Of Muscle in recent weeks and is confident he is ready for success in the 2015 Moir Stakes.

“He had a gallop reverse way on Saturday morning around the course proper at Warwick Farm and he has done particularly well,” Pride told Racing Ahead.

“1000 metres is a bit of a specialist (distance) and he is really good over the short course.

“He is in good order and I think that he deserves a crack at a Group 1.

“You look at the line-up here and there is not many Group 1 winners in the race, but some really nice up and coming horses as he is.

“He is seasoned, he is fit and he is ready to take them on.

“He obviously just got nosed out by a genuine Group 1 horse on his day and it has him primed for a peak run third-up.”

Stamping his claims as one to watch through an impressive debut preparation during the 2013 spring and summer, Ball Of Muscle made a successful transition to black type racing during the 2014 Sydney summer; running second to Barbed in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) before taking out the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m).
