Champion sprinter Chautauqua remains a clear $2.20 favourite in 2016 Moir Stakes betting markets but the money has so-far come for Buffering, who has firmed into $6.50 odds from an opening quote of $7.50.

Will Chautauqua justify his position on the top line of 2016 Moir Stakes betting, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset.

Chautauqua ($2.20)

Chautauqua’s potency and the amount of speed confirmed in the 2016 Moir Stakes field suggests he should just win first-up on Friday. Resuming this year for success in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m), Chautauqua failed to make up the distance late when third in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) but responded with a successful defence of his title in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m). Last seen winning the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m) in Hong Kong, the Encosta De Lago gelding is the horse to beat in the Moir Stakes 2016.

Buffering ($6.50)

Veteran warhorse Buffering is the defending Moir Stakes winner, is drawn well in barrier 6 and is clearly a proven performer at the class, distance and track. A multiple winner at the highest level of racing, the Mossman gelding was returned to the paddock after taking out the Magic Millions Plate (1300m) on January 9th. Also set on a campaign abroad, Buffering delivered a classy field of the world’s best sprinters defeat in the Group 1 Al Quoz Stakes (1200m) in the Middle East on March 26th. Buffering is likely to settle on the pace in the Moir Stakes, but may be swooped late by Chautauqua.

Ball Of Muscle ($21)

Ball Of Muscle is drawn ideally in barrier 3 for his run in the 2016 Moir Stakes and should be able to find the fore of the field from the outset. Ball Of Muscle has posted an impressive eight wins and ten minors throughout his twenty career starts so far, which included a close second to Buffering in last year’s Moir Stakes. He will have pressures from the fast field, but should be rock-hard fit form his first-up run for second in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and may only get pipped on the line.
